The Holiday Giving Project
Imagine the holiday season is approaching and your family is struggling to pay rent, utilities, and buy groceries. On top of that, December brings the pressure to give your children gifts for the December holidays and provide traditional celebratory food. This is the reality for many families living in Montgomery County.
The Holiday Giving Project (HGP) of Montgomery County, Maryland, has provided holiday food and December holiday assistance to low-income households for over 30 years. A network of social workers, school counselors, and other human service professional refer families and individuals in need of holiday assistance. Local non-profit agencies, faith-based organizations, service organizations, government agencies, as well as local neighborhood coordinators and families, come together each year to meet the need.
In 2018, 318 families, 770 kids, were served by the Holiday Giving Project in three zip codes in Upper Montgomery County.

Here are ways you can get involved:
- Sponsor a family as an individual or a group:
1-2 gifts per child with an estimated value of $25 per gift. The food amount/food card amount depends upon the total number of people in the family, but typically $50-$100.
- Financially Donate To Sponsoring a Family:
Providing monetary donations is less personal, but may be needed to fill the gaps and to provide for our larger families. With these monetary donations, we will purchases gift cards to Target, Wal-Mart, Kohl’s and grocery gift cards (Safeway, Weis, Harris Teeter) in $25 increments. If you are considering a gift card outside of this list, please consider local bus routes, as many recipients use the bus line for transportation. The more convenient we can make it for them, the better it is for their family.
- Monetary Donations: You can donate monetary and gift card donations by sending them to Faith Connections, Inc. P.O. Box 28, Damascus, MD 20872, a registered 501c3 organization.
Thank you again for helping to care for and provide for these families.
