Practicing Generosity Together: The Fall Clarksburg SWAP
Posted September 10th, 2025
One of the rhythms of our life together as a congregation is our commitment to Bless—to live generously in a way that reflects the heart of Jesus and makes the places around us look more like the Kingdom of God. Few events embody that commitment more clearly than the Clarksburg SWAP.
This fall, the SWAP returns—and with it, another opportunity for us to practice generosity together.
Here’s how it works:
Drop-off times: Wednesday, October 8th, and Friday, October 10th, from 5–7pm
SWAP event: Saturday, October 11th, from 10am–12pm at The Yard
During drop-off nights, cars line up and unload clothes, shoes, toys, household items, and more. Volunteers—many of them local students earning SSL hours—help sort and organize. Then, on Saturday morning, tables fill with treasures waiting for a new home. From the outside, it looks like a yard sale—but there’s one key difference: everything is free.
That’s because the SWAP isn’t just about exchanging things. It’s about practicing generosity as a people shaped by Jesus. Each time we give, each time we serve, each time we welcome our neighbors into this rhythm, we’re bearing witness to God’s abundance and helping our community taste and see the goodness of His Kingdom.
And here’s where you come in: while we are blessed with many students who volunteer, we need you—the church family—to step in as leaders. Certain roles—like overseeing traffic and parking—require adult presence. Others, like hospitality, setup, and supervision, are opportunities for us to model generosity and serve alongside our community.
Your presence matters. Your willingness to give, receive, and serve helps us partner with our neighbors to create something that feels radically different: a space where generosity flows freely, where needs are met without cost, and where strangers become neighbors.
So mark your calendars:
Drop-offs: October 8th & 10th, 5–7pm
SWAP Day: October 11th, 10am–12pm
And prayerfully consider how you might participate:
Donate items from your own “swap box" or ask your neighbors if they have items to donate as well.
Receive with gratitude and invite your neighbors to receive as well! We do not believe we are above receiving.
Volunteer as an adult leader, helping us make the event safe, welcoming, and kingdom-shaped.
Together, let’s continue to bless Clarksburg with the generosity we’ve received in Christ.
